BABY GIRL’S PERFECT NURSERY

Please note this post may contain affiliate links.

Hi everyone! I would like to introduce you to a new series I am starting called Gabbing Girls.  These are some of my favorite bloggers that will be writing special pieces just for this blog space! I love participating in guest blogs and I am so excited to be featuring these women on here!

I want to welcome Shawna from MishMash Mommy.  Shawna is a true Southern girl with a love for writing, photography, and Sweet Tea.  She is married to the love of her life, Stepmom to the sweetest 9 year old boy, Mom to an adorable 2 year girl, and Fur Mommy to 2 little Shih-tzu pups.  In addition to blogging at MISHMASH MOMMY, she is a part-time photographer and photo editor, and loves traveling and camping in what very little spare time she gets.

Her post will bring something new to the table because she is introducing her baby girls nursery! Which reminded me that I never posted about Baby Tripp’s nursery….

NURSERY

When I found out I was pregnant, I began scouring Pinterest and dreaming of what my sweet baby’s nursery would look like.  I couldn’t wait to find out the gender, so I could really go crazy!  I was so anxious that I scheduled an appointment with Peek A Boo Baby for the day I hit 16 weeks.  You can’t imagine my excitement when they told me it was a GIRL!  I would have been thrilled either way, but I’d secretly always wanted a little girl.

I’d never been much of a pink girl, so I wanted to do the nursery in purple…and loved the combination of purple and teal.  If you’ve ever tried looking for that in nursery bedding, you know it’s practically impossible without spending a million bucks on custom made.  Heck, I had a hard enough time just finding purple.  Lavender was a little easier, but I wanted a true, vibrant purple.  I swear I searched for months, until I finally found one I liked.  Ironically, it had quite a bit of pink in it too.  The great part is I could get it at my favorite store, Target, online (Thank you, Red Card)!  The Target option came in a bundle, which included a few things I wouldn’t use, but it was still cheaper than buying certain pieces separately.  Now that I had decided on bedding, the rest was much easier (and so much fun) to shop for!

I wanted to keep things bright and fun, so I opted for a white crib from Graco. I also chose a white dresser and white cube storage unit (both from Target).  I loved the idea of using the dresser top as my changing table, so I got a changing pad and wrapped it in a super soft light purple cover.  I will say it did slide around a bit., so we eventually used the buckle and just looped it through the drawer and out the back.  I wanted to bring out a little bit of the green from the bedding so I got storage bins and drawer knobs to match.

After searching forever and reading a million reviews, I settled on this glider, and I love it!  It is so comfy, and I think the gray works great with everything else.  I picked up the table and lamp on clearance at Target. Double score!  I had a really hard time finding curtains.  There wasn’t anything that would work in the stores, so I went online.  Shockingly, I got these blackout curtains at Walmart online!  I knew it was meant to be, when I noticed that the style name was Kendall.  🙂

Speaking of my daughter’s name, I got big white letters at Michaels and painted polka dots to match the crib skirt.

IMG_6415

One of my favorite accents was the paper lanterns!  I was going to order separately, but I found this pack on Amazon that had the exact colors I needed!  I initially wanted (and ordered) some giant tissue paper pom poms, but when I got them, it was just too confusing for my prego brain to figure out how to assemble them!  Thankfully, I absolutely love how the lanterns turned out!

I had been stockpiling books pretty much since I found out I was pregnant, and definitely needed a place to put them.  I saw this super cute book shelf idea on Pinterest, and it turned out great.  The bookshelves are actually IKEA spice racks that I painted white.  The only problem is that they don’t hold very many books, so I quickly ran out of room.

IMG_6412

I had a hard time narrowing down which decor I was going to put on the walls…there is so much cute stuff out there!  I got some adorable decorative signs and shelves, and this amazing shag rug (again, from Target).

Once the nursery was complete, I’d just go and sit in there imagining what it would be like when she arrived.  It’s like it didn’t really hit home until this room was finished.  I felt like NOW I was ready for her to be here.  NOW I was ready to be a Mom.

What was your favorite part of decorating your nursery?  How did you feel when it was finally complete?

Empties- 2.0

I am back at it with this month’s update on my empties! And what do you know… EVERYTHING can be found at my favorite store Target!

Up & Up Diapers– LOVE these diapers.  I would say that at night I do like to go up a size though for extra protection!

Aveeno Clear Completion: Sometimes about foamy soap makes me happy.  This cleanser is gentle on skin but works! I love how it leaves my skin feeling soft and clean.  Definitely recommend.

Nature Made D3: These are vitamin D pills.  After having Tripp during my yearly lab work I was found to have a vitamin D deficiency [thanks sun-screen] so because of that I started taking these.  I have noticed that my energy and mood have improved and there is LOTS of research to show support in taking vitamin D because of the health benefits! Recommend these vitamin D pills.  Of course talk to your doctor before taking any medication!

Bio-Oil: I used this after pregnancy because after I had Tripp all of a sudden I had stretch marks. This has really helped keep my skin moisturized and the stretch marks are mostly gone and what are left are really faded.  Definitely recommend.

Crest Prohealth Advanced Toothpaste: I felt this toothpaste cleaned well.  It was not my favorite taste and the cap WOULD NOT STAY SHUT.  It drove me bananas. I would recommend a twist top Crest instead.

Things I Love, travel

Traveling with a baby tips & tricks

We are about to head off to Florida for my Grandfather’s 90th birthday! What a blessing to have this man in my life and Tripp’s life. That brings up a topic that I remember as a new mom being so worried about.  Traveling with a baby. Well eight flights later, and I feel like so far, so good!

Honestly, even as a high needs/fussy baby he did AMAZING!!! People were SO great and helpful. I have only had one flight where I heard someone say something under their breath about being near a baby (and Tripp then showed off by sleeping the whole flight).

Tip #1: Check out my GabbingGingerBabyPackingList! Also, check out this packing list for mom/dad here.

Tip #2: Schedule flights during nap time

Tip #3: Feed baby during take off and landing to help their ears.

Tip #4: Babywear (but bring a stroller for back up, you just check it at the gate)

Tip #5: All of the new surroundings will provide good entertainment but bring a few toys and their paci if you are lucky enough to have a kid that will use one (Tripp was NOT about them).

Tip #6: Try to relax (remember EVERYONE was a baby at some point in their life)

Tip #7- Keep breast milk/formula in containers and bags unless it is being drank by the baby (so just fill a small amount for take off/landing).  I found the Doctor Brown Bottles that we LOVE pressurize and will leak EVERYWHERE when you have liquid in them. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

I am a little nervous again to fly with a  bigger baby but I have some tricks up my sleeve!

IMG_8469

Trick #1: I am bringing some new dollar bin toys for him to explore [YES I know some of these have 3+ on the age but since I will be sitting with him the whole time I am not concerned]

Trick #2: Fun fun new snacks to munch on.

Trick #3: I also plan to walk to aisle when we can just to give us a break.

Trick #4: I am going to try downloading some cartoons from Amazon and netflix.  I have heard through the mom crowd that this can happen! This will give me another distraction even though he usually doesn’t get much screen time, travel doesn’t count lol!

What are your go to tips and tricks when traveling with kiddos?

Wish us luck!

What’s in my diaper bag?

As babies get older what you carry in your diaper bag changes! After switching things around I finally found a solution that works best for me.  I hated that my stuff was getting cluttered with Tripp’s stuff and I wanted a easier solution than carrying two bags.

A friend of mine recommended a back pack for Tripp when we use the the child watch at the gym and that is how the lightbulb went off in my head.  I keep everything of Tripp’s in his backpack and throw it in my big bag! So much better and easier to find what I need.

So onto the good stuff…Our bags:

His [Pottery Barn]: Pre-K size

Empties

Hey everyone! One thing I am trying to get better about is using up the products I have before buying new things.  So I thought I would start compiling my empty products and then give feedback on what I like and didn’t like!

Nothing is off limits so these posts will cover makeup, beauty, baby, food…. and so on! Let’s get started!

gg

Physicians formula powder:  Great product.  I still lean toward lose powder because I break my pressed powders EVERYTIME.  I would still recommend this product.  It has good coverage and is great on sensitive skin.

Elf Eyeliner: LOVE LOVE LOVE this product and the price point.  And even though the container is small it lasted quite awhile! Thumbs up!

Huggies wipes: I love these wipes.  Are good at getting everything clean (both baby wise and baby mess wise) and I like that they are a little thicker. Thumbs up!

Up & Up wipes: This wipes did the job but I HATED the scent.  I would recommend unscented.

Hand Creme: Love having this on the go in my diaper bag.  They don’t have this scent [I linked a similar one] but I love how this creme feels and it seems to keep my hands soft! Thumbs up!

Bath & Body Works Soap: I LOVE their soap and I love trying different scents.  The foaming soap is my favorite but not for any particular reason.  Both of the scents were great [I also LOVE the lemon scents for the kitchen]. These soaps were one of the reasons I decided I needed to start using up product. When we moved I found about 10 half used soaps under our sinks… what can I say I like to change them with the seasons.  Thumbs up on these!

Pantene: I LOVE this shampoo [& conditioner].  Everyone always compliments how shiny and pretty my hair is when I use this.  AND IT SMELLS SO GOOD.  Thumbs up!

Babyganics Bubble Bath: This stuff smells amazing and Tripp LOVES it! Bath time was major with sleep training and playing in the bubble bath is a favorite of Tripp’s.  I think the scent also helps him relax.  Thumbs up!

Vitafusion Prenatal: Since I am still breastfeeding I take prenatal.  I love the gummies but I have had a few brands and these aren’t my favorite in taste but they still taste good.  However, for someone else they may be their favorite flavor.   Would recommend.

What are you favorite products you consistently use up?

Favorite Baby Products

Hey Y’all! I wanted to write a recap post of my favorite products from Newborn through 6months.  I am hoping through the stages of Tripp’s childhood I can recap my favorite items. Some of these items we still use regularly!

Hope you can find some of these items useful!

Probiotics-We liked Gerber Soothe. Really helped with regulating Tripp’s gut system especially since I was Group B Strep positive so I had to have antibiotics during birth.

Magic Merlin Sleep Suit– Tripp HATED being swaddled but loves this suit to sleep in.  It kept him cool enough in the Texas heat (with just a diaper underneath) but warm enough in the winter months when we put pj’s underneath).

Swing– A great way to calm the fussy baby!

screen-shot-2017-01-11-at-11-16-05-am

Gas drops– Tripp had LOTS of tummy issues so these were a life saver!

Adan and Anis Swaddle blankets– We didn’t swaddle but these make the easiest covers for breastfeeding and were the perfect lightweight blanket in the summer for baby!screen-shot-2017-01-11-at-11-17-31-am

Activity Mat– Great for entertaining the little one during Tummy Time!

screen-shot-2017-01-11-at-11-18-17-am

Sit me up– Such a great toy that gave me a few minutes of free hands!
