Fantastic Philanthropy: Speedway Children’s Charities

Hey y’all! It has been awhile since I spotlighted a charity that I love.  This specific charity holds a spot near and dear to my heart.  I worked for them several years ago and I can tell you the people (volunteers and employees) are some of the most fantastic people you will EVER meet.

If you remember, one of my new years resolutions is to volunteer more and I am excited to say that I am going to help spearhead a Young Professionals group for the local Texas Chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities.

Why do I love SCC? Here is a little about the organization straight from their website.

The mission of Speedway Children’s Charities remains true to the ideals it was founded upon in 1982: To care for children in educational, financial, social and medical need in order to help them lead productive lives.

Since 1997, Speedway Children’s Charities at Texas Motor Speedway has distributed more than $10.2  million in funding to non-profit organizations in North Texas supporting children in need. The funds distributed by Speedway Children’s Charities are raised through special events held throughout the year. Most of Speedway Children’s Charities events are geared around the three major race weeks at Texas Motor Speedway.

Speedway Children’s Charities could fill the grandstands at Texas Motor Speedway 16 times with the number of children we have helped since 1997.  Our reach is far, and the dollars we raise go to directly helping children in our community.

Children’s organizations in Collin, Dallas, Denton and Tarrant counties are eligible to apply for the Speedway Children’s Charities’ annual Founders and Partner Grants. Qualified applicants must directly fulfill needs of children in our area and be a registered 501(c)(3) organization.

This group has raised money that TREMENDOUSLY helps the local Texas community and specifically KIDS! I love the cause and I love the people!

No tailgate is complete with out friends and family! That is who MAKE the tailgate.  While ALL the things I have talked about are fun to have without good company you can’t have a good time.

AND then nothing beats going to an OU game with 85K of your closest friends!

30 for 30 football favorites countdown: Crazy for Queso

During a tailgate the best way to make queso is in a crock pot.  My favorite is the Famous Queso Dip!

1 lb.  (16 oz.) VELVEETA®, cut into 1/2-inch cubes
1can  (10 oz.) RO*TEL Diced Tomatoes & Green Chilies, undrained
Dice VELVEETA® into cubes and pour RO*TEL into crock pot with cubes into crock pot.  Turn on high and let melt.  Stir occasionally.  Turn down to medium/low once completely melted.

Tailgates can sometimes start extra early so you definitely need to eat the most important meal of the day!  One of my favorites to make is biscuits and gravy! It is easy and everyone loves it!

Pillsbury Grand Flaky Layers- 1 can

Pioneer Brand Gravy Mix- Country Sausage Flavor

Jimmy Dean Reduced Fat Sausage

Preheat oven and bake to directions the Pillsbury Grand calls for.  While those are baking start the prep for the gravy.  Boil the water and follow directions as Pioneer Brand states.  At the same time begin browning the sausage in skillet.  Once browned stir into gravy mix. Then get biscuits out and serve!

30 for 30 football favorites countdown: Hair-Time

Gameday hair is one of my favorite things! Because weather is so unpredictable I like to do a curly wave to my hair…. It is a go to look for me because if it is humid it turns to a beach like wave and if it is windy it just adds some volume!

The perfect answer to this hair need is to get a blow out! I have been meaning to try out  one of these places but just haven’t gotten a chance.  Here are a couple of my favorite styles from the blow out places I have been eyeing!

I love “Shaken Not Stirred” and ‘Sex on the Beach” from Blow West 7th [Fort Worth Blow Dry Bar]

Now for when I am in Oklahoma for game day I will obviously need to venture out.

Lush Blow Dry Bar– I definitely want to try their:

JESSICA-
Amped up volume with big bombshell curls.

Oklahoma has crazy weather so you always need to be ready! One of my favorite things is a sweatshirt blanket!  I love it because it is like a hoodie for your body!   I love this one from Rally House. It comes in so many choices so you can most likely find your favorite team!

30 for 30 football favorites countdown: Koozies

I LOVE koozies… They are such great souvenirs to remember fun places you have been or things you have done.  So why not make a custom koozie for your tailgate?  They are cheep, fun and such a cool thing for guest to take away (and bring back for the next game)!

Here is what I believe I am going to order from Custom Ink:

What do you think? I was trying to come up with a fun hashtag so we can *hopefully* track our tailgate guest pictures!

Whether you just want to ride the tailgate lot or campus a fun way to get around is a bike [with a helmet of course]! However, with an RV you want things that save space so here is my solution.

Barcelona Citizen Bike… IT FOLDS!

BONUS: Since we stay overnight it is a great way to get your exercise and fitness in over the weekend!

30 for 30 football favorites countdown: Ultimate Chair

Tailgating is like a marathon and chairs are like running attire in this analogy.  Having a good chair is important! I found this chair online and I am definitely envious!
