How to Mom Date

*Please note this blog post may contain affiliate links!

Can we just all agree that as an adult it is SO hard to meet friends.  Once you become a mom you have an even bigger layer of self consciousness about “mom shaming” to deal with which adds to the difficulty of making friends!

how to make mom friends

Well after 16 months I can say how truly important it is to find mom friends that have kids close to your children’s ages.  You go through the ups and downs together and can lean on one another for advice. This is really important to me since my mom isn’t here to give me advice.

But how do you meet the mom friends?  Here are some tips that I have picked up since I have had Tripp!

Places to meet mom friends:

  1. Local mom groups [Facebook, Fit4mom, MOPS]
  2. Library
  3. Parks
  4. Local Play Areas [indoor playgrounds, bounce houses, gyms]
  5. Museums

Okay so you made it to some great places to meet moms but how do you talk to them?

  1. Say hello!
  2. Give a compliment! [Like I love your shoes or earrings] Be sincere!
  3. If conversation gets to flowing ask her name!
  4. Put yourself out there, say hey we should grab coffee, wine or meet up at a park sometime!
  5. Exchange numbers [and then send a text to plan a mom date]

Don’t be afraid of rejection. It happens and you wouldn’t want to be friends with someone like that anyway! The majority of moms are looking to meet other mom friends to socialize with.  Just keep trying and you will find that perfect mom group!

Monogram is a must

Hi y’all! It has been a minute since I have posted.  I have been over on Instagram completing the #MarchStyleMadness style challenge!  It has been lots of fun and stay tuned for a recap post about that.

Anyhow back to the blog topic.  My best friend Paula, graduated from Nursing School a few weeks ago.  I had been wanting to get her a gift but wasn’t 100% sure what to do.  Then, one of my friends posted some pictures of monogrammed name badge buttons and I was sold.  She sells them on her Etsy site.  Right now the site is on hiatus because she is GETTING MARRIED!!  You can also check out her BRAND NEW home renovation blog Becoming the Beatys.

The name badges are so cute and add such personality especially for those who have to wear scrubs and can’t show their personally much through their clothing.  Here are the badges I had made:

So darling. Probably one of my favorite gifts I have purchased in a long time! What are your favorite shop local places to find gifts?

Threading For the WIN

I was given the opportunity to try out Wink Threading last week.

wink

Don’t know what Threading is? Here is a blurb from the Wink website:

“For the sophisticate and the novice alike, threading has supplanted waxing as the safest, most effective eyebrow-hair-removing alternative. This precise method removes hair in a line formation to achieve an exact and angular brow – producing a look that will start drawing compliments from the moment you leave the Wink salon.

This gentle form of hair removal avoids contact with the skin and is the most hygienic process available, because there are no chemicals or tools used aside from a spool of antibacterial thread. In fact, dermatologists recommend threading for patients on topical medications because the skin is not irritated in any way by the procedure.

And – get this – it’s virtually pain free. Think of it as “tweezing with benefits.” It’s the same virtual sensation as tweezing, but the entire process is over much more quickly, as each hair is removed in clean, rapid, linear succession. No pain. Just gain!”

The environment at Wink is welcoming and clean.  The session was short [about the same amount of time as a typical wax]. Rather then painful it almost was a prickly tickle sensation but nothing that was super uncomfortable!

I love that they don’t just do a standard shape and they work with your face.  Also, they don’t do brows super thin which is fabulous although I am sure they can if you request it!

My favorite thing was the fact that my skin wasn’t bright red after the threading was over and it never turned red! Sensitive skin for the win! Pricing below is for Wink threading and it is fairly comparable to other area waxing salons.

Below is my before and after.  My apologies that the quality isn’t the best. But they were taken in different lighting! TOP is before BOTTOM is after! LOVE The shape!

They did a GREAT job and I will definitely be back! Make sure to like them on Facebook and follow them on Twitter for great deals and information!

30 FOR 30: Football Favorites Countdown- Yeti Cooler

One of the most important tasks at tailgating is keeping the beer cold! If you haven’t discovered Yeti Coolers you are missing out! Now they are pricey for a cooler but TOTALLY worth it!  We LOVE our Yeti’s and they really do keep everything crazy cold for LONG periods of time!   They come in ALL sizes.  Here is the website says:

“YETI Coolers are built to be indestructible and keep ice for days.  Built for going toe-to-toe with hungry grizzlies.  Built for the prepared.  Built for better Monday morning water cooler talk.  Built for the long haul.  Built for the wild.”

I mean if it can handle grizzlies it can handle us tailgaters!

30 FOR 30: Football Favorites Countdown- The Chilly Pad

The heat can catch up with you during those early season football games! Of course you can cool down with a beer but sometimes you need a little something more.  One of my FAVORITE products is the Chilly Pad!

What is a Chilly Pad?

“Made from a hyper-evaporative material that retains water while remaining dry to the touch, The Chilly Pad® is an innovative way to cool down while enduring outdoor heat and/or high levels of physical activity. When wet, the towel begins to evaporate and cool, providing cool, soft comfort to the user. When it stops cooling, simply re-wet the towel in hot or cold water and wring it out. Within minutes, it’s cool again” – Frogg Toggs

30 FOR 30: Football Favorites Countdown

Since football season is ONE month away I decided to do a countdown of one item a day that I LOVE about football!

I am a SOONER at heart so many of my items show my love for the University of Oklahoma but most items can convert to other teams!

First up you ask? LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION!  When we tailgate we go to SooneRVillage! Mark’s parents have an Airstream which is PERFECT.  We can cook, have electricity and most importantly a CLEAN bathroom! This tailgate season will be our 7th year there and our tailgate continues to grow…. Mostly because of all the new babies but new friends attend too! Here are a few pictures of our tailgate!

What are you favorite football items?  I will be covering food, fashion, tech and much more in the next 30 days!

becoming a statistic

I think this blog is so important for people in our society today. We are so imaged based and it can really destroy a person. It takes a brave soul to talk about it and I think this piece really stands out!
