Coffee with Cops

The other day we went to our second McDonalds event.  We decided to venture to a location close to where my brother lives in Dallas because we thought it would be fun to see a new [to us] McDonald’s. This latest event is called Coffee with Cops.

Coffee with Cops

What is Coffee with Cops?

Coffee with Cops is a partnership between the Dallas Police Department and McDonald’s of North Texas to boost officer and community relations by providing residents with the opportunity to interact with Police Officers working in their neighborhood. The partnership began in 2013 and has continued to evolve over the past seven years. Officers of all levels – including Sergeants, Deputy Chiefs and Neighborhood Patrol Officers – will sit down with residents to answer questions, discuss public safety and build relationships with those they serve.

Community is key

It was so fun to see so many officers from all different levels talking to all different walks of life. All of the officers were so kind to answer all kinds of questions and I mean they took a picture with this crazy fool. Plus, who doesn’t love McDonald’s breakfast on a Saturday.

Tripp seriously had so much fun and tt was the icing on the cake when we arrived and saw that this McDonald’s had a playground.  Coffee with Cops was so refreshing and fun.  It was so cool to hear community updates and see hear the behind the scenes stories!

Stay tuned to see what McDonald’s events I end up at next.

McDonald’s Lunch Bunch

I am so excited to be partnering with McDonald’s and to get the opportunity to attend some of the wonderful community events that they put together.

Last week my family headed to McDonald’s for our first Lunch Bunch event! We had such a fabulous time with the staff and other families! Check out what Lunch Bunch is all about below!

What is McDonald’s Lunch Bunch?

Lunch Bunch is a time where you can gather with friends and network of parents to learn more about McDonald’s and its commitment to education, food and giving back in local communities. These events happen quarterly!

The fun family vibes filled the air and we loved getting to chat with the other families there and the staff was phenomenal.

Fun for the kids

Lunch Bunch isn’t just for parents. Tripp had so much fun with crafts, balloons and faceprinting. Of course he loved getting to munch on food and play in the play area. McDonald’s is just the perfect family lunch environment.

We have a bit of a shark obsession if you can’t tell! The face painter was SO amazing with Tripp he wasn’t sure how he felt about it but wanted to do it [toddler life right?]. After a few tears and the artist demonstrating the brush and letting him pick colors she created the masterpiece on his face. I was blown away by her patience, understanding and kindness towards us.

Don’t you worry Annabelle didn’t get left out… She enjoyed a few little French fries as a treat for behaving so well!

McDonald's Lunch Bunch

We had a blast getting to celebrate teachers, spend time with our family, and munch on yummy food. Thank you so much to McDonalds for having us and we can’t wait for the next event.

I will be at several McDonald’s events this year so make sure to follow me on Instagram so you know when you can join! Next up, I will be in Dallas for Coffee with Cops! Stay tuned for a recap!

Fantastic Philanthropy: It’s all about the YMCA

I think it is about time to outline another Fantastic Philanthropy! The YMCA has grown close to my heart over the last year.  My husband sits on the local board for one of the branches and I started working out there about a year ago.  We are involved specifically with the Westside and Benbrook YMCA’s.

The YMCA gives scholarships and youth program opportunities. Persons who wish to utilize the services of the Y, but cannot afford them, are given assistance based on their needs. This allows the YMCA to say “Yes!” to those who otherwise would not be able to participate. The YMCA offers a complete continuum of services for all ages.

Here is a great video of Cheryl who has benefitted from a YMCA scholarship:

Beyond the great things they do for the community the staff is great! I am greeted by my name everyday and asked how I am.  The group fitness instructors recognize you and also are very friendly and knowledgeable sources.

I think that goes to show how great the YMCA is not only for individuals but for the community.  Whether you are there to get fit, have children that play sports or are looking for a great philanthropy the YMCA serves all of those and much, much more!

Below are just a few pictures from my YMCA adventures:IMG_3296

Visit the YMCA for more info on how to volunteer, donate or join the gym!

#100daysofhappiness: Day 69, 70, 71

I love my Celestial Green Tea it is definitely a great afternoon pick me up! Can’t help but love my animal print mug!

I also got to attend a fabulous YMCA breakfast event called the “Chairs Roundtable Breakfast” on behalf of the Westside YMCA. My husband is on the board but I love getting to support such a wonderful cause in our community!  They have some BIG things happening! Plus, the breakfast was AMAZING!

The other item I love and that makes me happy are thank you notes! I love giving and receiving them! I was just talking to my MIL (shout out to Bard she reads this :)) about how many people do not write these and how it makes us so angry sometimes! People don’t even acknowledge gifts these days! I try to take the time to quickly write them whether I receive a gift, go to a dinner or just want to send a quick thanks for a good deed! So many people who surround me go above and beyond what is expected and I want them to know I appreciate it.  I will get off my soap box now!

#100daysofhappiness: Day 54

April 19th.  A day that I saw how a community could rise up.  Oklahoma is a strong state and I left a little piece of my heart there when I moved to Texas.  On April 19th I was in 3rd grade and understood that a building had exploded.  As a child I didn’t fully comprehend the situation but one thing I saw was how strong the community I lived in is was (and still is).  Oklahoma is resilient.  Oklahoma is strong.  Oklahoma taught me that hero’s run in when others are running out.

There are moments in life that shape generations and for those okies that day our lives where changed forever.  However, when evil showed its ugly face that beautiful community showed me that good can over come! 168 men, women and children lost their lives and I will never forget.  Their spirits live in the hearts of Okies everyday.

While this post isn’t necessarily “happy” it is part of the community I remember and how happy and lucky I was to grow up there.

#100daysofhappiness: Day 11

I have always had a passion for Non-profit work! Before working for my families business I worked in non-profit!  Since, changing jobs I still wanted to give back. One of the first places I became involved with was the Arthritis Foundation.

I have been working with them since I was in college (AOII’s Philanthropy is the Arthritis Foundation)! Check HERE for how AOII helps give back!

Several people in my family suffer from this debilitating disease.  My dad was struggling with its effects until a new drug became available and has worked wonders for him!  Thanks to the efforts of the Arthritis Foundation there is continued research into this disease!

One of the big events for North Texas (and nation) coming up this year is the Walk to Cure Arthritis! You should check it out!

As you can see Arthritis doesn’t just happen to “old people”! What causes do you like to give back to?
