OOTD: Date Night

Right now we are cherishing the moments of being a family of two before the bambino arrives.  We decided to treat ourselves to a date night at one of our Fort Worth favorites; Eddie V’s.

We actually just sat in the Lounge (aka the bar) and listened to a great jazz band while enjoying several appetizers, wine (for hubby) and dessert (for me) .

I finally am starting to “show” a little bit so clothes are actually looking less awkward… at least I think so. Here is a recap:

Fantastic Philanthropies: Arthritis Foundation

Hi everyone! One of my goals of this year to is to incorporate more philanthropy into my blog.  So I have decide to spotlight outstanding organizations! This first organization is near and dear to my heart; The Arthritis Foundation.

Arthritis has affected so many family members and friends of mine that I wanted to get involved to help find a cure. So over the last 2 years I have sat on the Jingle Bell Run Committee and the Walk to Cure Arthritis committee as part of the Arthritis Foundation of North Texas.

Did you know that Arthritis is not just a disease of old age. Two-thirds of people with arthritis are under the age of 65, including 300,000 children?! The Foundation not only holds events to help raise awareness and money to find a cure but the website and staff are full of information for those who are affected.  They help give health information health information, information for families of those affected and event camps for children who have JA.

Here is a great overall description of what Arthritis Foundation does and how to get involved:

The Arthritis Foundation is committed to raising awareness and reducing the unacceptable impact of arthritis, a disease which must be taken as seriously as other chronic diseases because of its devastating consequences. We are leading the way to conquer the nation’s leading cause of disability through increased education, outreach, research, advocacy and other vital programs and services.

Our goal is to reduce by 20 percent the number of people suffering from arthritis-related physical activity limitations by 2030.

Make Arthritis Unacceptable: We build involvement in the cause via advocacy, events, fundraising appeals, media relations and consumer information.Provide access to the information and resources needed to minimize the impact of arthritis: We mobilize funds and capacity to create broader reach and meaningful engagement that helps people adopt and maintain healthy behaviors.

Drive a strategic research agenda: We mobilize public and private funding as well as societal alignment around goals and strategies that offer major benefits for people with arthritis.

Influence policies and strategies to produce better outcomes for people with arthritis: We mobilize support for public and private policies that support arthritis prevention, innovation and access to quality care.

Reduce arthritis-related disparities in health and health care: We create greater capacity to assist underserved populations that have a significant arthritis burden.

What YOU Can Do

PARTICIPATE: Join an Arthritis Foundation program and improve your pain. Our fitness programs are designed to help you live better with arthritis. Moving is the best medicine.

ADVOCATE: Help change policies to improve the lives of people with arthritis and make treatments more effective and affordable.

VOLUNTEER: Find your local Arthritis Foundation office and get involved.

JOIN: Get numerous benefits by becoming a member of the Arthritis Foundation. Also, look for an Arthritis Walk, Jingle Bell Run/Walk or other event near you and raise money to support our work.

DONATE: For every dollar donated to the Arthritis Foundation, more than 75 cents goes directly to fund research and interventions for people with arthritis. The Arthritis Foundation meets the strict qualifications of the Better Business Bureau’s Wise Giving Alliance, ensuring your tax-deductible gift is spent in ways that will best help people with arthritis.

If you have a Nonprofit organization you think I should spotlight please let me know! I am also looking to spotlight up and coming Young Professionals!

30 for 30 football favorites countdown: Crazy for Queso

During a tailgate the best way to make queso is in a crock pot.  My favorite is the Famous Queso Dip!

1 lb.  (16 oz.) VELVEETA®, cut into 1/2-inch cubes
1can  (10 oz.) RO*TEL Diced Tomatoes & Green Chilies, undrained
Dice VELVEETA® into cubes and pour RO*TEL into crock pot with cubes into crock pot.  Turn on high and let melt.  Stir occasionally.  Turn down to medium/low once completely melted.

30 for 30 football favorites countdown: Breakfast of Champs

Tailgates can sometimes start extra early so you definitely need to eat the most important meal of the day!  One of my favorites to make is biscuits and gravy! It is easy and everyone loves it!

Pillsbury Grand Flaky Layers- 1 can

Pioneer Brand Gravy Mix- Country Sausage Flavor

Jimmy Dean Reduced Fat Sausage

Preheat oven and bake to directions the Pillsbury Grand calls for.  While those are baking start the prep for the gravy.  Boil the water and follow directions as Pioneer Brand states.  At the same time begin browning the sausage in skillet.  Once browned stir into gravy mix. Then get biscuits out and serve!

30 for 30 football favorites countdown: Koozies

I LOVE koozies… They are such great souvenirs to remember fun places you have been or things you have done.  So why not make a custom koozie for your tailgate?  They are cheep, fun and such a cool thing for guest to take away (and bring back for the next game)!

Here is what I believe I am going to order from Custom Ink:

First of is a tent!

Target has this fabulous one! Also, don’t forget the side walls! They can help block sun on hot days and cold wind too!  Here is a great on!

You need a rug if you are on a hard surface to make it a little more homey.  I LOVE this rug from Amazon.
