Tripp- 6 month update

Well, well, well where has time gone  Tripp is almost 7 months old so I figured it was time for an update!!

img_7011

In my last update I talked about parenting a high needs baby.  The struggles of parenting a spirited child are still throwing curve balls at me but I can say that these last couple of months have been amazing (minus lack of sleep… boo to the 4 month sleep regression and teething)!

Tripp has such a personality and I love that we are finally getting to see him shine. He LOVES people and being the center of attention. He is proud of himself when he can impress you.  He definitely has the strong personality of both of his parents and has started finding his “outside” voice.  I have a feeling that he isn’t going to ever be a “quiet” person. 🙂

He is sitting up, pulling up, almost crawling and LOVES pretty much any food we let him try.  He has taken a sippy cup like a champ and we are still going strong on breastfeeding.

It is such a blessing to be Tripp’s mom.  He challenges me to be a better person everyday and is a constant reminder of unconditional love.  I can’t wait to experience his first Christmas here in a few weeks!

Check out how much he has changed!

Parenting a High Needs Baby

Being a new parent is HARD.  It is such a change from regular life to this new normal… especially being a work at home mom, I felt like my life was turned upside down and it was really hard to communicate that with my husband.  We had several **talks** about this when my hormones were raging.  But as days have pasts and schedules have gotten better so has this new normal.

However, very early on I realized something about my little guy was so different.  First time I knew something was up: He didn’t sleep through his new born shoot AT ALL.  Ten days old and stayed up for 5 plus hours.  As the days went on he wasn’t asleep all the time like most newborns….he was constantly looking around trying to learn and absorb EVERYTHING. He was grumpy and I had no clue what was going on. I felt really isolated and like I was doing something wrong as a mom.

I felt so frustrated that many things weren’t helping like others claimed.  Colic drops, probiotics, sleep suits…. They all helped a bit but there was no magic answer.  Everyone said it was colic and a flip would switch and it would go away and he would be a new baby.  However, the “switch” never just flipped after 6 weeks or 3 months or 4 months.

So after some research [thanks Dr. Google] I stumbled upon Dr. Sears 12 Features of a High Needs baby.  I realized my little guy fit almost every category.  I finally felt like someone understood.  The hours of purple crying, shushing and swaying…. other people had to do that too!

Trying lots of different things I will say Tripp has GRADUALLY improved. Once he hit 5 months and can sit up unassisted it has helped TREMENDOUSLY.  He can play independently and get toys within his reach and he LOVES that. Those first few months were very hard and I can tell you when someone tells me I will miss those days I cringe.  Crying for hours is not something I will EVER wish on someone.  I weigh less now then when I got pregnant from all the rocking and bouncing.  Many parents develop PTSD PPA or PPD from having a baby with colic… it is THAT serious and that traumatizing.

So here I am writing to hopefully help the next first time parent [or new parent to a high needs baby]. Here are some tips to help keep your sanity.

  1. Remember it WILL get better. Self talk is so important in those early days.  Those moments while they seem to last forever WILL end.
  2. Find a support group.  I LOVE The Fussy Baby Site Support.
  3. Don’t be afraid to try new things [doctor approved of course].  Our little guy liked one thing one day and something new the next. You want an arsenal or tricks with a HN baby. (We had a swing, rock and play, shushing, colic calm, probiotics, car rides, bath time, walking outside [in the crazy Texas heat], baby wear, noise machines…. just to name a few)
  4. Ignore those who are not there to support you. Unless they have had a HN baby it is VERY hard for people to relate.
  5. You are doing the best you can and THAT is good parenting.
  6. Coffee and wine are your friends.
  7. Buy meals/snacks that are easy and quick. It helps eliminate that frustration. [granola bars were my best friend]
  8. Seek professional help if you feel lost, depressed or that you may harm yourself or the baby.  Those days can be very dark so don’t feel like you can’t speak out about it.

Tripp has challenged me to be such a strong and patient mom and I wouldn’t change his strong personality for the world.  I feel so much better knowing he is just a strong personality and coming to terms that there is no “cure” and thats ok! I LOVE that he wants to constantly learn and be stimulated! That doesn’t mean we don’t have bad days or frustrating days but those days are spreading further apart because this is the first time for EVERYTHING for our little family and we are all learning!

What worked for your fussy baby?

LuLaRoe Love

Okay y’all; being a mom of a high needs baby [more about that later], I am looking to stay fashionable but comfortable. LuLaRoe has made that SO easy.

They have signature styles that I can easily purchase and add to mix and match into my collection.  The leggings are seriously AMAZEBALLZ. SO soft.

I love that you can stay classic with solids but that they also have fun prints too! Styles range from comfortable to work place classy so there really is something for everyone.

Many pieces work for breastfeeding and could easily transition into pregnancy wardrobe.  WHICH I LOVE.  There are very few “pregnancy” pieces that I purchased because I love things that have more than one use.  This brand is perfect for that!

For those of you unsure about sizing, consultants are great at helping.  For reference I am 5’2″ and about 115-120lbs. Also, for the busty girls I am a DD-DDD just to help you out.

Okay first off here are the leggings.  I am an OS.  I have not tried tween yet but I think I maybe able to wear them. These are what LLR is known for.  They are so soft and flattering!

leggings

The Nicole: This is my favorite dress! It is so flattering but so comfy! Also, it is easy to nurse in. Something that many of my pre-baby dress are NOT.  So this has been a great piece to add to my wardrobe.  I am an XS.

img_5684

The Amelia: Oh this dress is so fun! It has a great zipper detail and you can wear the zipper in the front or the back! It also has pockets!  I am wearing an XS.

img_5906

The Carly: A very comfy and versatile dress.  You can style it a TON of ways.  You can pull this dress off around town with some chucks on or heals for a date night! I am wearing an XXS.

carly

The Cassie: A fun skirt.  Great for work! It has the stretch of leggings but looks so professional.  It is so comfortable too not tight and constricting like most skirts! I am an XS but could do a Small as well.

img_5682

The Lindsay is a fun layering piece since it is a kimono.  This has been perfect for wearing with nursing tops! This is a small.  If they made it in XS I would probably get that but alas they don’t.

img_6241

The Classic Tee [Left]: Love this shirt to wear with leggings or to rock with a pair of jeans! I am wearing and XS.

The Irma [Right]: A wonderful tunic top.  Can wear a ton of ways! I am wearing an XXS.  I will say I have a few of these and the back length varies a little bit but all are pretty long!

**I also have a maxi skirt not pictured that is an XS.

Here are links to my FAVORITE consultants! Be sure to tell them how you found out about LLR.  If you have questions let me know and I would be happy to help!

Baby Tripp’s Birth Story

Well goodness gracious it has been awhile!  Time sure does fly once you have a baby! I thought I would give you all a baby Tripp update! Hopefully, now that things are a *little* more settled I can have posts up 1-2 per week!

Blog world meet Tripp!

mcp_selking-1107

Isn’t he the sweetest! This little nugget was comfy in my belly.  Of course my Doctor was going out of town the week after I was due… so I knew that I would transfer to another in the practice when she left.  I went in Friday at [40 weeks 2 days] for my general follow up.  We did not want to induce until at least 41 weeks. My blood pressure was slightly higher than normal so she ordered a 24hr test that I would need to turn into the hospital on Monday. Went the whole weekend with no major issues [and no baby] so I went to the hospital on Monday [40 weeks and 4 days] and didn’t realize that they would also hook me up in triage while they ran blood work. I was in the clear with my test results and wasn’t having any major contractions so I then went to my Doctor for a follow up because it was her last day in the office before vacation.  We talked about the change of care plans and  I went home to wait out a baby until my next appointment [which was scheduled for Thursday].

I was feeling crampy that afternoon, but as many pregnant women know that is totally a normal feeling. Mark came home and made dinner and I was feeling more cramps so I took a shower. When I started to blow dry my hair I became really uncomfortable [I was having to stop to *breath*] so we decided to go to the hospital. Checked into L & D triage at 9pm was checked and told I was maybe a 4. At this point I was pretty uncomfortable and was getting sick to my stomach.  I was praying they would admit me because of how uncomfortable I was feeling.  They nurse had me stay 30 mins to be monitored and then the doctor came in and said your a 5.5 time to head to L & D. It was BABY time!

As soon as we got to L & D my contractions were back to back with no break and I had back labor. An epidural was always in my plan so they did my blood work and sent for the epidural.  Ten minutes later anesthesiologist was there and the epidural was set. I felt GREAT other then I did get the shivers! The nurse came in about 30 minutes later and asked how I was feeling,  I told her I was having a weird leg pain so she decided to check me and low and behold I was complete! So she broke my water and got the room set up for delivery. We couldn’t believe how fast this was going!

The nurse had me do practice pushes [it is about 1 am] and after 3 pushes they saw the head so we needed to wait for the doctor [who was delivering next door]. Finally the doctor came in and 5 pushes later Tripp was born at 1:38am.

This was NOT what I expected! It was so fast for a “first timer”.  The nurses were AMAZING and they were so impressed at how “easy” I made it seem.  Also, thank you medical world for epidurals!

We are just so in love with our little guy! I will definitely be blogging about life with a baby so stay tuned!

Pregnancy Style Recap

As my due date approaches I wanted to get a recap up of what I wore and some style tips during pregnancy.  I think one of the best pieces of advice I took was don’t be afraid to wear pre-pregnancy clothes and incorporate them into your pregnancy pieces.

There are some non-negotiable pregnancy pieces for me.  Leggings and jeans that go over the belly.  Everyone is different but I couldn’t get comfortable (in later pregnancy) with elastic/waistbands digging into my lower tummy.

Pictures and items will be list left to right, top row than bottom row.

Versatile [pregnancy] Style

Style and function is something that I have been looking for when I enter the new mom world.  Harper and Bay came across on my instagram account and I fell in love!

This dress not only works now during my pregnancy days but it has cute zippers to make breast feeding easy! I will probably even wear it when I am out of those seasons of life!  I have heard over and over again from my mom friends that finding clothes that make breast feeding easy can be hard to find… Especially dresses! These are seriously so perfect and Harper and Bay carries great on trend styles!

**In the top right picture you can see one of the TINY zipper pulls to unzip.  It zips between the light pink and dark pink**

PS I can’t wait to repost on this dress after baby Tripp makes his debut!
