Sometimes I am a really great Pinterest mom and other times I just want to make a few short cuts to make life a little easier. Ha! I found this icing hack a long time ago I like to say BK…. Before kids. This Fun Fall Treat with a Hack makes cupcake decorating a whole lot easier. Everything is remade but with an easy step you are able to up the “store bought ingredient” cupcake game. Also, make sure to check out the end of the post where I share my friend Kayllie and her fun fall treat idea!

First off I just let my kids pick out the mix and frosting flavors they want. This time around Tripp wanted to do a fun halloween theme and I was totally here for it… bonus it was funfetti which is one of my favorites.
I create cupcakes just as directed. Sometimes we make regular size, sometimes mini and sometimes a mix of both. We let them cool and here is where the fun begins.
Fun Fall Treat with a Hack
All you have to do to spruce up the store bought icing is throw it in a mixer and “fluff” it up. I love using my kitchen aid mixer with the whisk attachment I usually just do about half the “tub” on medium speed for a minute or two.. FYI regular icing works better than cream cheese icing…. cream cheese doesn’t seem to fluff as much.
A fun way to add a learning lesson is to add food coloring. This is a great way to teach how adding colors together and mixing creates a new color. We did red + yellow to make orange. Then I use a spatula and either fill a ziplock bag (and cut a corner about .25 of an inch at an angle. This way I can make fun “swirled” cupcake Icing rather than the schmeared on icing. Then we add sprinkles.
It’s as easy as that! The kids love doing it and its relatively mess free and fun! Do you have a Fun Fall Treat with a Hack?
